Kinfolkology x Community convenes at Dumbarton Oaks in Washington, D.C.

On October 16, 2025, Kinfolkology brought its signature “Kinfolkology x Community” workshop series to Dumbarton Oaks in Washington, D.C., gathering descendants, historians, artists, and community partners for a day of reflection, collaboration, and creativity. The program centered on descendant-driven approaches to archival research and collective memory, exploring how families and communities can reclaim stories of enslaved ancestors and reshape public history from the ground up.

Through small breakout sessions, oral history exercises, and art-infused dialogue, participants shared research strategies, family histories, and visions for building more inclusive archives. The event underscored Kinfolkology’s commitment to connecting people through shared heritage and expanding access to historical knowledge rooted in care, justice, and community storytelling.

Thank you so much to everyone who helped make Kinfolkology x Community: Dumbarton Oaks in Washington, D.C. such a meaningful gathering.

Note: We will share more photos from yesterday’s gathering when they become available here!
